Traveling to Pisa
Pisa is easily accessible either by car, train or plane (and even by sea, with the nearby port city of Livorno).
Its international airport, Aeroporto Galileo Galilei, is served by a wide range of airlines (both “normal” and low-cost) and is on the outskirts of the town, yet still quite close to the city centre (3 Km).
Florence airport, Aeroporto Amerigo Vespucci is another possible option, from which Pisa can be reached by bus or train (about 1 hour).
Pisa railway station has fast train connections with Rome, Turin, Genoa, Milan and Naples. In addition, a convenient regional network provides cheap connections with Florence, which is the most important railway hub in Tuscany and is easily connected with high-speed trains to Rome, Naples, Milan, Venice (served by the two operating railways companies, Trenitalia and Italo). Trains from and to Florence depart hourly (and even more often, depending on time), the journey taking about one hour or one hour and a half at the maximum.
For those arriving by car, Pisa is near the intersection of two toll highways, A12 “Autostrada Azzurra” (Genova–Livorno) and A11 “Autostrada Firenze-Mare” (Pisa–Firenze). Pisa is also served by the (toll-free) carriageway, “Strada di Grande Comunicazione Firenze-Pisa-Livorno”, so it can be easily reached from all major Italian cities. There are public parking facilities and many hotels have their own garages.
